PRESENT AN IMMERSIVE FILM IN A GIANT SPHERE
Following in the footsteps of giant screens and 3D, immersive film is adding a new dimension to the magic of cinema. Presented in a transportable giant sphere, in the middle of which spectators take their places, the concept was entirely developed in Montréal in 2009 by Space&Dream, a company that specializes in virtual reality, video game, and animated film technology to create never-before-seen immersive cinematic experiences. In February 2010, the film Yuga was screened at the Montréal High Lights Festival. This spectacular 14-minute long digital animation tells the story of the Earth in reverse, from the planet’s last minutes to the birth of the universe. The adventure takes place in an opaque 15-metre high sphere, which is transformed into a 360º screen, with six synchronized high-performance projectors working together to cover the entire surface of the sphere’s interior. Animation takes over the walls, and their surface gives way to images of the universe. The film may be screened again in other locations over the coming months.
