create an electronic nose for odour monitoring.

The OdoWatch® system is made up of one or more electronic noses strategically positioned near odour sources at specific sites in order to characterize (identify and quantify) odour emissions. By combining meteorological data from local weather towers with that measured by the electronic noses, the system models the atmospheric dispersion and displays the site’s odour plume (colour-coded based on its concentration) superimposed over an aerial map of the site. Measurements are taken using either the European EN 13725 or the American ASTM E-679-91 standard. The continuous monitoring of odours has several benefits: an objective odour measurement tool – right-size odour abatement equipment – direct correspondence between the odour plume and the olfactory pollution being generated – improved relations between operators, neighbouring residents, and local authorities – facilitation of the choice of odour abatement techniques – objective evaluation of odour abatement – hierarchical organization of odour sources – easy demonstration of the effectiveness of actions taken – reduction in complaints – planning of operations based on forecasts.
